About B 12 Lab Tests:

The following tests can be done by any standard lab and help evaluate B12 status:

  • Vitamin B12 serum levels
  • MMA levels
  • Homocysteine levels

Interpretation of these tests vary and may not always reflect an accurate understanding of truly optimal levels.

Vitamin B12 serum levels should be more than 300ng/ml and ideally above 400ng/ml.

MMA levels that are higher reflect lower B12. MMA levels above 300nmol/ml reflect sub optimal B12 levels.

Homocysteine levels evaluate the functioning of the B12 and should be less than 10.
